From the Scoutmaster 6/30/14
Welcome to our new website. Thanks to our new webmaster, we will endeavor to post the latest news about our troop.
If you are still in contact with any former troop members forward our website to them and encourage them to give us information for a future reunion.
We have recently posted our first pictures. I will add a site to post an OLD picture for us OLD Scouts to remember.
I would also like to be able to post a personal history of some of our past Scouts. I will work with them to write an account of life after Troop 223 and life now. I know I have business owners, doctors, lawyers, government men, engineers, world travelers, firemen, plumbers, contractors, policemen, servicemen and all sorts of former Scouts with great stories to share.
Our current Scouts are always encouraged when a past Scout returns to the meeting for a visit. We recently had a visit from Chef Chris Parker who owns his own upscale catering service. He was so stern when he walked in until I called his name and then that big infectious smile came to his face.
Our troop is still preaching ‘character counts’. We are the top troop two years running now and plan to hold the title. We have 16 scouts today and over twenty adults, over a dozen with over 10 years of service. Two leaders were founding members of the troop as Scouts. With all the dedicated adult leaders on the same page our Scouts get very personal encouragement and training. We lead by example and try to never do for a boy that which he can do for himself. It’s really the only way to learn the skills we teach. We teach. We encourage. We empower. We watch new leaders develop. That is our reward.
